Jenna’s impressive HSC results on pointe

2021 by all accounts was a difficult year for many Year 12 students. Jenna Boshen’s year however was one of her best yet.

Jenna was named the Dux of The McDonald College and has just received her HSC results. She earned a Band 6 for every subject and an ATAR of 97.45. She has also won a coveted Callback for her ballet skills.

Jenna started with the College in 2017 as a Year 7 student. One of the major drawcards of The McDonald College for both her and her parents was that Jenna could pursue her passion for ballet, without having to compromise on her academic studies.

Jenna started dancing when she was eight and says the aspect she loved most about school was that she finished every school day with a performing arts class.

Her ballet teacher, Ms Jane Kesby said, “While I know that Jenna could make a career in classical ballet, I am delighted to learn she is going to undertake a double degree in Commerce and Advanced Computing at Sydney University. She tells me she has ambitions to one day gain an executive role with an innovative company,¬ and I have no doubt whatsoever, she will achieve that.”

When asked about how she managed it all, Jenna said “I made sure that when I was in the studio, I was completely present. Focusing on another goal was a reprieve from any stress of studies.”

Mrs Maxine Kohler, Principal at The McDonald College said, “I know that Jenna will follow in footsteps of many exemplary graduates of the College who have advanced to outstanding careers both on the stage or the tennis court and beyond. We are so proud of Jenna and sincerely wish her every success. I can’t wait to see where her journey takes her.”

Jenna attributes this kind of personal investment from all the staff at the College to her accomplishments. “I have always felt appreciated as an individual and I found I could always ask for advice and get support when I needed it. It’s what makes The McDonald College so special.”

For anyone considering the College, Jenna says, “I would always reiterate the importance of academics, even if it’s a performing arts career you’re really craving. Every industry needs smart performers. Sustaining both in equal measures is an opportunity that’s afforded to everyone at this school.”
