Junior School Shines in a Spectacular Start to the Musical Year

Our Junior School students have already had a few musical performance opportunities this year. A number of our students from Years 1-6 have performed solos at Junior School Assemblies, Year 1-6 sang a beautiful song at the Harmony Day Assembly, and many student have been undertaking private music tuition with our specialist tutors at the College.

The Junior School Music Competitions Evening was held in Week 7. Students performed two contrasting pieces with confidence and professionalism, some of whom were fortunate to be accompanied by our College accompanist, Ben Kiehne.
Congratulations to performers in the Vocal Competition; Francesco di Leo, Aya Santosa, Liam Nixon, and Lavuni Vehikite, and in the Instrumental Competition; Laila Breen – violin and Aya Santosa – piano.

In Week 9, our Choirs performed at the Grandparents and Special Friends Day Concert. The Infants Performing Arts Choir loved singing “The People in my Family” and they proudly held a photo of a special family member whilst enthusiastically singing. Year 3-6 Performing Arts sang a beautiful 2-part arrangement of “Here Comes the Sun”, and all of Year 1-6 sang the finale “Thank You: A Tribute to Grandparents”. This song was not only well-received by the audience, but our students appreciated the opportunity to sing their thanks to their grandparents for “all the things they say and do, and for showing us a love that’s true”.

More music opportunities to come next term with the Junior School Music Solos Evening in Week 3, the annual Junior School Music Showcase later in the term, and  a special excursion to the Sydney Opera House for Years 5/6.
