The Making of Our Music Showcases
This term has been one of preparation and rehearsal. Both the Junior and Senior Music streams have been very busy learning and perfecting their parts, lyrics and choreography for our Showcase performances. With both groups undertaking some extremely challenging music across many styles, much time has gone into learning and putting these tunes together to present at the highest possible standard.
We hope all who experience the Showcases at NIDA are suitably impressed with the fantastic performances.
Alongside our day-to-day rehearsals, some of the Stream’s students have kept up their ‘Out of school’ music ventures with performances at many venues across Sydney.
Jensen Mazza (Year 9) presented a very successful solo set at the Ferragosto Italian Festival in Five Dock during August.
Mid-September saw Daniel Billing (Year 11), Leonardo Vaccarezza (Year 11), Toby Taylor (Year 11), Sara Wotton (Year 11), and Madison-Rose Koniseti (Year 8) perform as a band for the ‘North Epping Rangers’ Rangers Day in September, entertaining the crowds celebrating the success of the NER’s recent Soccer Season. Aptly named “The Bay City Rangers” for the day, the students did a great job presenting two lengthy and entertaining sets of dance music.
Sophia Hawley (Year 10) and Daniel Billing (Year 11) also played a duo gig at the very popular live music venue, Lazybones Lounge in September with enormous success.
It is so great to see our students playing outside of the school and putting into place what they are learning, in a real-life gigging scenario. There is no experience like the real thing, and we are so lucky that our students are capable and willing to take on such endeavours whilst keeping up their studies and hectic ‘in-school’ performance programs.
Once again, the busiest time of the school’s performance calendar is not possible without the incredible music staff, without whom, none of the fantastic outcomes are possible. I am extremely grateful for the time and talents of all the music staff, who teach from kindergarten to year 12, for their time and talent, and for sharing with and caring for our clever students.
