Goodbyes are never easy
Term 3 in boarding is always a big one. It is GO GO GO from the very start. The weather starts to get warmer as we move into Spring and the days stay lighter for longer, which means the boarders venture outside more to play basketball on the MPC and spotlight around the grounds. We have High Performance week which always has the house buzzing with excitement. Additionally, it is Year 11’s last term and Year 12’s last year of boarding, which means a lot of ‘lasts’ for them.
Most of our boarders are in Performing arts, so Showcase week is huge! It’s a week of very long days, escorts to NIDA, packed lunches, dinners snacks and drinks, and plenty of time for the kids to shine on the big stage. The excitement not only comes from the boarders but from the Tennis stream as well, who love watching their boarding brothers and sisters perform.
High performance week is exhilarating and exhausting for all and is such a great way to finish off the term and school life for Year 12.
Earlier in the year Jamie Rogers was selected to represent Australia at the World Tap Championships in Germany in September. He finished up the term one week before school finished to travel overseas to compete. We wish him chookas for the comp!
We had four Year 11 boarders present speeches for their bid to become school or vice-captain this term. The speeches were impressive, funny and honest and it will be exciting to see who gets elected in the coming weeks. The school is very lucky as any of them will make an exceptional school captain or vice.
This term saw our Year 12 boarders dive straight into their trial HSC exams. We were so proud of the way they handled this season, and managed to balance their time between study and play. All their major works were completed, and the finished results were fantastic.
This last week, the boarding house gathered for a celebration farewell dinner to send them off. Most of them have been boarding with us for three years, so there were lots of tears shared. There are eleven Year 12 boarders, and they have all been a wonderful part of our boarding family. We are going to miss their smiley faces being around and wish them all the best for their bright futures!
