Principal’s Spotlight | September 2022
That’s a wrap! A very busy and exciting Term 3 has ended with the celebration of Year 12 and Year 6 graduates at our Graduation Ball hosted at the beautiful Doltone House on Sunday 25 September.
By way of reflection, Term 3 began and finished with performances:
The Ballet Stream celebrated the talents of our students and staff with five performances of Giselle to sold out audiences. The students learnt the power of pacing themselves over the season allowing for the first performance to be as fresh and as exciting as the last.
Year 12 students completed their Trial HSC examination and the Practical HSC examinations with the following students receiving the accolade of being nominated by the HSC examiners for exemplary works:
Callback HSC Dance | Amelia Russell (Composition and Performance) |
Encore HSC Music | Tara Mueller (Performance) |
OnStage HSC Acting | Gabrielle Honor Wilson (Performance) |
Many of the Class of ’22 have received early entry into the university degree of their choice including Bachelors of Law, Film, Music, Psychology, Primary Education, Media, and other pre-professional performance courses.
Our eisteddfod groups either won or were placed in all the major eisteddfods across Sydney including the Sydney Eisteddfod. Many of our students entered the eisteddfods as soloists and were also recognised at the highest level for their talents and hard work.
Our Tennis students competed in competitions both nationally and internationally with amazing successes. I look forward to the day, in the not-too-distant future when we have a McDonald graduate competing on the international professional circuit.
It was wonderful to be able to hold our Secondary Athletics Carnival again at Sydney Olympic Park and this year Helpmann House took out the honours of placing 1st. Unfortunately, the Junior School Athletics Carnival was rained out.
Many other activities of the term included: Book Week, Science Week, R U OK, Wear it Purple, Father’s Day, Junior School Poetry Competition, PJ Day, Youth Advisory Board, AICES and CDSSA Athletics Carnivals, Graduation Breakfast and Assembly, and so much more.
The highlight for our performing arts students was the High Performance Season. This culminated in four wonderful nights of performance at NIDA’s Parade Theatre. From our youngest students to our graduands, the performances were outstanding, and I take this opportunity to congratulate the students and our amazing staff.
Thank you to our parents who have provided their child/ren with the opportunity to enjoy the unique education and opportunities that The McDonald College provides ensuring preparation for life beyond school.
Have a safe and happy holiday. We look forward to having the students back to Term 4 on Monday 10 October.
