bstreetsmart – road safety education

bstreetsmart is the inspiring initiative of the Trauma Service at Westmead Hospital. Through their hands-on work, the staff there are constantly reminded that people aged between 15 – 30 are disproportionally represented in road trauma.

The purpose of the program is to reduce the fatality and injury rates of young people by promoting safe behaviour as drivers, riders, and passengers.

Our Year 10 students attended the annual bstreetsmart forum in August, where they learned about the impact of dangerous/distracted driving and the consequences for those, directly and indirectly, involved in a crash.

Alongside the event, there is a short film competition called “bfilmed”, which must have a message relating to road safety for youth (eg, speeding, texting, consumption of alcohol of other substances, tiredness, distraction etc.)

This year, we placed third nationally with a film called Road Safety Assessment produced by Layla, Carly, Emelia, and Mollie. Congratulations team! You can watch their film below.
